Dining Room Sconce Search

We've been working to slowly replace the outdated lighting throughout the house as we find new fixtures.

Our dining room was in the running for "worst lighting ever" since we have yet to replace the sconces flanking the french doors.  I have come to hate the tulip sconces, and they had me unexcited about all ideas of sconces.

I was milliseconds away from  cutting the electrical and patching the holes with drywall when I ran into some lantern inspiration from, the uber talented, Joanna Gaines.

Sidenote: Joanna Gaine's is my favorite designer.  In the history of ever.  Her blog and shop is full of so many lovely things and her farmhouse is just totes gorg ;)

Anyway, I fell in love with the idea of lanterns flanking the opening to our new family room.  It was exactly the look that I was going for.  And the style seemed totally appropriate for the direction we wanted to head for our dining room.

Here's some more inspiration of wired lanterns.  This is from Chevy Chase's beautifully designed home - who would've thought Mr. Chase had such amazing taste.

I hunted for months for new sconces, and I finally narrowed down the search. All of these lanterns we considered are 'outdoor' lanterns - the only difference from an indoor light fixture is that they are designed and manufactured to withstand weather.  Let me tell ya...it's not easy to find an outdoor sconce that works well inside a 1960 ranch.

Here's what we narrowed our choices down to...

We'll make a choice using the following guide...

1) Works indoor
2) Good mixture of modern and traditional style (since we own a 1960 ranch - not a farmhouse)
3) Seeded glass must be removable
4) Price
5) Ease of return
6) Antique bronze finish

And finally... it must coordinate with the chandelier I plan to use in our dining room.  Y'know...once I talk myself into spending $400 on a chandelier.
