Justin and I have finalized our nursery plans! We haven't begun to attack the room just yet, but now we have a plan. And that's half the battle.
We don't know what this little pea is just yet - in fact, we are waiting until his or her arrival into this sweet little world before we know if we are calling the little one Frank or Edna. (I'm kidding. Those aren't the names). Not knowing what little one is sporting between the legs can make designing a future spot in this world for them a bit more difficult. But we feel like we found a great neutral theme that isn't gender swayed one way or the other. And (bonus) it's not so baby'ish - so as our little pea grows, we are hoping this room can grow with him or her.
Our little Sweet 'P' is going to be dreaming of climbing mountains and sailing blue waters in his or her own adventure room. It's very neutral right now. Once little one arrives and announces to the world that he or she is a guy or gal then we can add some more masculine or feminine touches (in way of blankets, pillows, changing pad cover, etc).
Our plan is to stencil a mountain silhouette design on one accent wall behind the crib. When I saw the Delaney Rug from PB Kids I felt like we finally landed on a design we can work with; diamond patterned to mimic the accent wall and neutral enough to grace le flor. There are plenty of diamond or Moroccan pattered rugs out there that we are fans of (like the Moroccan shag in our family room), but I wanted a low pile rug this time around. Because, quite frankly, vacuuming our lovely Moroccan shag rug in the family room is a pain in le rear.
We will have to make a few purchases for the nursery (like the rug, cordless shades, and dresser). But we have a few items that we hope to revamp or make ourselves if time allows. We plan to reupholster a family heirloom rocking chair, paint a free Jenny Lind crib, convert some of our travel pictures to art, make floating bookshelves for the wall, and whip up a few DIY accent pieces. We'll also finish replacing the baseboards, door trim, and window casings and add crown molding.
The room is basically a blank slate right now. The paint color used in the board above, Valspar Beige Shadow, is already on the walls in the future nursery from when we painted originally. We like the color, but we are considering going a tad more gray (BM's Stonington Gray) like in the board below. It won't be a huge change if we do decide to go that way.
Paint - Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray (HC-170)
Crib - DaVinci Jenny Lind Crib (Target)
Rocking Chair - Wingback Convertible Rocking Chair (Potterybarn Kids)
Ottoman - Kelsey Round Pouf (Target)
Window Shades - Dover Cordless Roman Shades (JCPenney)
