Stately Sconces

Last month, I shared what lighting options we were considering for our dining room.  Here's a reminder at what we narrowed down our choices to.

After careful consideration, and one failed attempt and return, we decided on lantern #2 (Parsons Field Outdoor Wall Light from Lowes). Not only was the price reasonable, we thought the Parsons Field light was much more beautiful in person (as opposed to her online photo).

The square lines, the aged candleabras, the removable glass inserts (cough the price tag cough)... we were sold.

The Parsons Field sconce originally came with glass inserts which we chose to omit for the time being.  The seeded glass (glass with bubbles in it) made it look like it really belonged outdoors.  Since we are using these as accent lighting indoors, we decided to strip these babies naked. And we like it.  We kept the glass inserts in a safe place just in case we change our mind down the road.

We really like the naked look of these lights.  Our choice was solidified when we came across an openwork sconce from RH.  We think the naked version of the Parsons Field light from Lowe's closely resembles the lines of the Restoration Hardware English Openwork Sconce.

I wouldn't say that these two are total knock-offs of each other, I just think they have a similar look.  Not only are we a little partial to getting more bang for our buck, we also think the modern flair (with the nod to the century old style) of the Lowe's version fits nicely in our ranch style house.

It took us some time to make this choice on lighting since we thought using an outdoor light would look out of place.  But... we couldn't be happier!  Then again, anything was an improvement over those crazy awkward tulip lamps.

Aren't they so much more... stately? Yeah, that's the right word.  Stately.

Stately and masculine and rustic-ish.  Which was exactly the look we were going for.

We didn't need more light in this space since we have the dining room chandelier for overhead light.  These are more for ambiance. We popped in some 25W candelabra bulbs to provide a soft glow - something a little more accent-like than bright-like.  And now we actually use them!

Did you notice some other changes are taking place?

Like that our "dining room" is much less of a dining room and more of a sitting room.  More changes are happening around here, folks!

Here's a little sneak peek at the direction we are heading with our old dining room.... more updates coming soon!

What do you think of our choice for sconces?
