Now that we have walls, heat, a new floor, and no more exposed plumbing we can officially dub this room the "family room."
Justin and I left town the day after the spray foam went in (November 1st). With our November 14th deadline on the horizon, we handed our house key over to our contractor and had him drywall, tape, and mud to get the walls ready for primer, and asked him to lay the cement board for the tile floor.
By the time we returned from vacation, our room was ready for paint. We spent that Friday night priming the walls and putting the final coat of paint on the ceiling. This ceiling is 13' at it's peak, and not easily accessible with a 6' ladder. Our Graco sprayer came in handy to get this job done. (Speaking of the sprayer - that thing is worth it's weight in gold).
What do you think of that gorgeous view out the double windows? We have to do something about that.
Remember that chimney and those gas plumbing lines? The accent wall hides all those unsightly additions, and we can still access all of it through that closet. We covered that wall with 8" pine planks to make it more "accent" worthy, and mounted the TV on it. The cable box, DVD player and subwoofer will be hidden in the closet, and all power and cable cords hidden from sight.
Our trim and accent wall will be white and I plan to paint the french doors black (like this) for a little bit of drama.
Just to the left of the french doors, we roughed in an area for a wet bar (with plumbing for the sink, an outlet for a beverage refrigerator, and two outlets for counter height). I'm still working through designs of the bar, so this will come a bit later.
We worked hard that week of the deadline. It was a stressful week at work for both of us, and then we stayed up until 2am each night turning the room into this...
This room isn't quite 'me' yet. The drapes are temporary just for some privacy, and the rug was pulled from the other room (to give us an idea of size). We've got some great ideas brewing (that will hopefully come together at the end of this week).
Remember where we started?
We have loved having the extra hang out space. It's also so much more cozy for movie night in!
