First Guest Bath Update

Justin and I are so excited to have a full second bath that we just had to make it over right away.  Sure, we have 87 other projects going on, and we currently don't have a kitchen.  But, I needed something done.  For my sanity.

My first house had one full bathroom and a half bath (a toilet in a closet - that I refused to use) in the basement.  A second bathroom is suuuuuuch a great thing to have.  We love not having to share our master bath with guests (mostly because we haven't touched our bathroom and we're too embarrassed for anyone to see it).

The guest bath was working just fine, it was just a bit too "standard" for us (okay, mostly me).  And we were able to get it where we want for now for little money.  Take a look:

Here's what we had to work with...

Pretty standard, right?

First, we swapped out the shower curtain (using the same one from our last house) and ditched the layered mirror look.  Because, really, what man needs to watch himself do his business? Don't answer that.

Then we painted the walls with a fresh coat of paint (Valspar Soft Pelican).

Remember the bathroom gameplan I put together in November 2012 for the main bath in the first house?  Well, I never got to do it before we moved.  I yearned for those wall planks (#4 below) and the color scheme.

We thought the wall planks would work well in the guest bath by adding some texture and interest to the walls.  Especially since we don't have a vanity light.  I needed any excuse I could find to get these wall planks in my house.

My plan worked :)  Justin loves them and I will now line all the walls in the house with planks.  Psst...Sorry for the grainy photos.  I got a little excited about the planks and forgot to check my settings.  We painted the vanity and wall planks with Benjamin Moore Simply White (the same paint we're using for all our trim).

We added a mirror from Lowe's, a new faucet (the same style that we put in the last house), toilet paper holder and lever.

I had leftover cup handles from the last house and we used them to replace the knobs on the vanity.

All we did in the bath surround was add items we already had (tension rod, shower curtain, and lots of candles).

Justin and I both agreed that we weren't crazy about the "shelf" in the bath tub, but actually, it's growing on me.  And I really like that a towel can be placed here or some pretty candles, and they'll still stay safe and dry.

But those planks...

Oh the planks...  They make me swoon.  The planks are tounge-and-groove cedar (which is great for a bathroom that tends to be wet!) and they were half off at HD!  They came in both 7' and 12' lengths and are beadboard on one side and this plain 5" plank on the other.  I can't find the product online, but they can be found in store with the lumber.  Then we capped it off with an outside corner molding.

I could stare at them for hours.  Me-ow.

There is still some work to be done in here.  Like the plug in the sink.  We installed the new faucet, and then had to move the vanity to install the planks.  A little slip of the sink and... well, the plug broke so this silver guy is chillin' in it's place until we seek a replacement.

We also need to swap out the door hardware and add hardware to the storage cabinet in the wall.

Did you notice the new door trim? A couple of full house projects will extend into the bathroom, including the door casing you see above. That's a little sneak peek at our new trim. I haven't finished painting it, and I still need to add a cap on top of the trim above the door (something like this).  So far, I love it.  We'll also update the interior doors to a door I've had my eye on since I saw it in my brother's house... check out this for our door plan.  The base molding is the same that was in here before.  It was just given a quick update with paint.

The walls in here are pretty naked.  Don't worry.  We have plans for that.  In the meantime, check out this before and after.  This is the kind of stuff that I love :)

Wow!  I can't believe how light and bright it feels!  Did you notice the nasty floors? Yeah... my Dyson and I are not talking right now.  But that's a story for another day.

Welp, back to the kitchen I go...Er.. I mean, back to the empty room where the kitchen used to be.
