New Garage Space

My bridesmiads and mom hosted our bridal shower for us recently.  We received so many lovely gifts and I've been so anxious to put them away finally! And I needed a beautiful space to display them.

Yes, needed.

I guess it just works out that we could always use more storage space in the kitchen anyway.  And this cleaning supplies pantry wasn't looking it's best anymore anyway.



We didn't want to dedicate this space just to cleaning supplies, especially since our kitchen has limited space, and our family will only get bigger. 

I had plans to reclaim this storage space for kitchen use and possibly even expand it. 

 

My expansion plans didn't quite work like I had hoped, but we made the space we had work so we could install a standard 30" interior door.

 

I prefer not to have a bunch of items taking up my precious counter space  Especially appliances that aren't used every single day.  I came up with the idea of dedicating this space for small kitchen appliances - like an appliance garage of sorts.  

 

Especially those heavy appliances that would be shoved behind more frequently used items in a lower cabinet.  And therefore never used, because I don't want to empty the cabinet just to get to it.   

The heaviest appliances were placed at my arm level.  Where I could easily transfer the item over to the countertop.  And the lighter appliances were placed above my shoulders.

Jimmy cut these shelves out of 3/4" maple sheets with a 1x2 face on each shelf.  The shelves were laid on brackets custom measured for each appliance.  They are not secured to the bracket just in case I want to switch up the layout or if I want to use this pantry for other purposes in the future. I stained the shelves using two coats of Minwax's Polyshades in Tudor.

There is enough room for all my small kitchen appliances, and even room for my canister vacuum on the bottom shelf.  Anyone loving their canister vacuum?? I'll install hooks to the right of the shelves on the vertical storage for a broom, dustpan, and maybe some rags.

The maple sheets were a little more pricey than a typical plywood and therefore a bit of a splurge for the kitchen.  I have so much leftover that I'm able to make way more shelves for other uses (including our food storage cabinet).

Anyone else love those 5 panel doors? I've been eyeing them since my brother bought his house in 2007 and I'm really anxious to finally use them in this house!
