A Dining Room Update

This might be the least exciting update yet.  I really know how to set the mood, right?

We painted the dining room the same color as the living room (Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter).  The original wall color wasn't very offensive, so the before and after is much less dramatic than the living room update.  However, the walls were dull and in poor condition, so the "close up" is in better condition than the before (we are going through drywall mud by the gallon).  Here's what the room looked like on our first night in the house (before the floors got refinished).

That before picture was actually taken after we removed the lovely window dressings that we inherited.  The drapes and ivy definitely isn't my style.  And we also got rid of the floating shelf (on the right side of the picture below).  Joe Louis is pretty happy that we removed the shelf (we told him that it was a dachshund display shelf - he wasn't thrilled about it).  I mean, why else would there be a random glass shelf 3' from the floor.  For displaying a 9 lb. dog.

Ah... it's an oil lamp shelf.  Well, I keep my oil lamps elsewhere.  So the shelf had to go.

It's like a box of golden grahams blew up in the house and stuck on all the wood surfaces... golden oak everywhere.

You can get an idea of where the dining room is from the picture below.  I'm standing in the living room by the fireplace, right about where the linen chair is.

We only gave a little glimpse into the bonus room when I introduced the house in our first tour.  You'll see more later.  Just know that the entrance to the bonus room is through these doors.

The dining room gets major natural daylight thanks to the three door walls spanning the wall.  And the back of the house faces east so the sun is especially blinding when it comes pouring through these windows in the morning. Daylight makes it really tough to photograph for an amateur like myself... and that gives a very small window of time to take pictures when the sun isn't washing everything out.

We were pretty excited to hang some new lighting in the room knowing that a new fixture would certainly brighten up the space.  We found this chandelier at Lowe's and purchased it to hang in the foyer.  Turns out that the sucker hung a lot lower than I expected and was too long for the entryway.  We were on a roll of updating lighting, so instead of tucking it back in the box, we just swapped out the bell-shaped chandelier hanging above the table.

And he's now gracing our dining room.  I have other plans for this crystal guy down the road, so he may get moved again soon.  In hindsight, I should've returned him rather than make a snap decision like I did.

But he does a good job of fancying up the joint.  The dining room is looking quite naked... I still have lots to do in here.

The dining room has a whole lot more changes coming (think new sconces, trim upgrades and maybe one less wall).  So we're definitely not done with our updates in this room.  In fact, we already have a head start.  And I'm excited to share those details soon!
